New version of plastic restriction order released, biodegradable materials usher in industry spring


[Domestic News of Packaging and Printing Industry Network] On January 19, 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecological Environment issued a new version of the plastic restriction order - Opinions on Further Strengthening the Treatment of Plastic pollution. According to preliminary statistics on the production capacity of major domestic biodegradable plastic enterprises, the annual production capacity of biodegradable plastics in China was over 520000 tons in 2019, and it is expected to double by 2021.

In 2008, the State Council issued a notice on restricting the production, sales, and use of plastic shopping bags. Starting from June 1, the production, sales, and use of ultra-thin plastic bags were prohibited nationwide, and a system of paid use of plastic bags was implemented. For the first time, the "no plastic" policy has been implemented nationwide, but the implementation effect is relatively limited due to only restricting ultra-thin shopping bags.

In April 2018, Henan Province gradually banned the use of disposable plastic products;
In February 2019, the Hainan Provincial Government issued the "Implementation Plan for the Comprehensive Prohibition of the Production, Sales, and Use of Disposable Non degradable Plastic Products in Hainan Province", becoming the third province to implement the ban on plastic products.
On January 19, 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued a new version of the plastic restriction order - "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic pollution".
